Taylor Ayling is a working-class Bristolian with an international spirit. He originally trained in European Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford and after, started his own theatre company Between Teeth that developed their own style of actor training over 3 years. After they disbanded he studied for 2 years at the renown Odin Teatret in Denmark, where Eugenio Barba developed the devised theatre movement in the 1960’s. In Denmark he was an also an actor for DOO performing arts, performing all over the country. After Odin Teatret, he travelled to Bali and India to study some of the most ancient forms of traditional performance and came back to England to test them out with a new theatre company Public Weird. During Covid, Taylor saved up money and re-trained formally as a director at Rose Bruford again, now in their Contemporary Directing Practice M.A. Here he learnt a number of styles of actor training in depth. He learnt Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints training, Stanislavski’s Active Analysis method and trained extensively with Annabel Arden of Complicite. After the M.A. he attended an internship at International Theatre of Amsterdam with Olivier and Obie award winning director Ivo Van Hove and was a participant in ‘From Act to Acting’ a 2 week intensive workshop with renown genre-busting acclaimed artist Jan Fabre. He also attended the International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA) in Hungary, where performing arts masters from around the world gather and share insights and research into the trans-cultural dimensions of the actors craft. He is a visiting lecturer at Bristol School of Acting and Cygnet Theatre in Exeter, he runs various acting workshops around the south-west and is also lead producer of RAM theatre festival.
